“You got a dream, you gotta protect it. People can't do somethin' themselves, they wanna tell you you can't do it. If you want somethin', go get it. Period.”
For four years at Penn State, I was asked the question, “So what are you going to do with degrees in Communications and Photography anyway?” I answered with “I’m not really sure yet but I’m going to make sure I love it.” I will never forget how insecure people’s eye rolls and chuckles made me feel about my response. They treated me like I was some naive artist with an unrealistic dream for how the world works but I knew better. I will also never forget how proud I felt graduating with two degrees that represented so much hope for who I wanted to become after college despite the criticism I received along the way. To be honest, I never really knew WHAT I wanted to do, I just knew WHO I wanted to be.
Today, I run my own Photography Business, partner with other entrepreneurs & creatives to try to bring color into this sometimes grey world, and also coach a team of athletes who inspire me more than they know. I can’t express how thankful I am that I get to create, learn, play, inspire and network with go getters and fearless dreamers as my career today. I’ll definitely never forget this feeling either.
I call this chapter, “Deciding to Go for It.”
